Coventry Bradley Collins Not much he could do about any of the goals but produced a stunning save to tip over Marcus Rashford’s shot from close range and outfoxed Casemiro in the shootout. 7 Joel Latibeaudiere Former Manchester City academy player failed to pick up Scott McTominay’s run for the opening goal and endured a torrid afternoon before being subbed. 5 Bobby Thomas Put his head where it hurts to divert a goalbound shot from Bruno Fernandes in the first half and was a commanding presence at the back. 8 Liam Kitching Had his hands full trying to deal with Alejandro Garnacho’s trickery and taken off early in second half. 5 Milan van Ewijk An energetic presence down the right flank and looked dangerous on the rare occasions he ventured forward. Long throws caused havoc in the United area. 7 Josh Eccles Struggled in the battle against Kobbie Mainoo but almost set up Ellis Simms with a powerful run and cross. 6 Ben Sheaf The Coventry skipper helped drag his team back into the game with an all-action display in midfield. Had to feel for him after blazing over in the shootout. 8 Jake Bidwell Could the left wingback have done more to prevent Diogo Dalot’s cross for McTominay’s goal? Must have been relieved when Garnacho was taken off. 5 Callum O’Hare The man known as the Solihull Messi almost recreated Keith Houchen’s famous diving header from the 1987 final before his deflected goal gave Coventry hope. Poor penalty in the shootout. 7 Ellis Simms Top scorer barely had a sniff until just before half-time. But took his goal well and could have won it had his shot not struck the bar late on. 7 Haji Wright Never stopped running and was ice-cool when dispatching the penalty to send the game into extra-time. Dragged a good chance wide in extra-time. 7 Substitutes: Fabio Tavares (Latibeaudiere, 63): great cross for the Simms goal and helped to change the game. 8 Luis Binks (Kitching, 63) Produced a vital goalline clearance late on. 7 Victor Torp (Eccles, 63) Unlucky not to equalise with a brilliant volley and then saw a late goal ruled out for offside. Clinical in the shootout. 7 Jay Dasilva (Bidwell, 80) Booked for fouling Antony after coming on late. 6 Matt Godden (Tavares, 105) Wasted a good chance in extra-time when given acres of space. 6 Manchester United André Onana Resorted to doing stretching exercises to keep himself warm during the first half but produced a vital diving save late on and denied O’Hare in the shootout. 7 Diogo Dalot Inch-perfect cross after a strong run forward presented the goal on a plate for McTominay. Managed to clear the danger when Simms almost equalised. 7 Harry Maguire Coped well with the physical threat of Simms initially and took his chance to score. Seemed to lose confidence when United came under pressure. 6 Casemiro Looked comfortable at first in an unfamiliar central defensive role and produced a brilliant diagonal ball for Rashford. But a lack of pace was badly exposed by Wright in the second half and missed with a tame attempt in the shootout. 6 Aaron Wan-Bissaka Struggled playing out of position at left-back but was unfortunate to play a part in the second Coventry goal with a deflection before conceding a penalty. 5 Scott McTominay Has now reached 10 goals in a season for the first time in his career. Still has a tendency to give the ball away far too easily. 6 Kobbie Mainoo Another typically assured performance from the teenage midfielder and his absence was extremely noticeable after being substituted. 8 Alejandro Garnacho Missed an early chance but a constant headache for Coventry until he was withdrawn after the third goal. 7 Bruno Fernandes Always in the thick of things and provided a sumptuous corner for Maguire’s goal and clever finish for the third goal. Should have scored in extra-time but hit the bar. 8 Marcus Rashford Showed the occasional flash of brilliance but went missing when United were being pegged back and taken off before extra-time. 7 Rasmus Højlund Led the line well and linked the attacks, even if he is struggling to find his goalscoring boots. But showed guts to fire home the winning penalty. 7 Substitutes: Antony (Garnacho, 66) Wasted possession on more than one occasion. 6 Christian Eriksen (Mainoo, 72) Struggled to adapt to the pace of the game at first. 6 Amad Diallo (Rashford 90+7) Added much-needed intensity in extra-time. 7 Omari Forson (McTominay, 103) Almost scored with his first touch. 7
