Mazin Fawaz Baghdadi joined Alinma Investment Co. as chief investment officer in 2017 and was promoted to CEO and managing director in 2020. In that time he has played a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the company, notably through creating synergy between the short- and long-term objectives of the board of directors and working closely with other key personnel. By applying best practices of risk aversion, the company has been able to endure difficult market environments such as those caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent global economic fallout. Relying on staff development and corporate growth, Baghdadi has driven the company’s revenue channels forward both in terms of size and diversity. Under his strategic vision, Alinma has expanded its geographical exposure, structuring tailored solutions to clients and significantly growing revenue from capital and money market funds, endowments funds, investment banking, brokerage services and custody services. Under Baghdadi’s leadership, the company has become one of the top performing asset managers in the market. It was the first investment company in the Kingdom to issue an endowment fund, launched the world’s largest sovereign sukuk ETF and has pushed the boundaries of best-applied technology globally, providing a smooth, comprehensive and fully integrated experience for its clients. Alinma’s assets under management were recently valued at more than SR83.5 billion ($22.26 billion), making it the third-largest asset manager in the Middle East, according to Forbes Top Asset Managers 2024. In addition to his role at Alinma Investment, Baghdadi has served as an independent board member at Jabal Omar Development Co. since June 2022, where he is also a member of the audit committee. Before joining Alinma, Baghdadi held various leadership roles in the financial sector, including head of investment management at HSBC Saudi Arabia and head of Saudi and GCC equities at Saudi Fransi Capital. He has a bachelor’s degree in finance from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals and has pursued various leadership certifications and programs from institutions and firms such as INSEAD and Harvard Business School.
