Thomas Tuchel has confirmed he will leave Bayern Munich after Saturday’s final Bundesliga game of the season, at Hoffenheim. Tuchel revealed in his pre-match press conference on Friday that he had failed to reach an agreement to extend his stay at Bayern, who missed out on the domestic title for the first time in more than a decade. The 50-year-old’s announcement will fuel speculation about a potential move to Manchester United, with the future of Erik ten Hag unclear. Tuchel said: “This is my final press conference here – we stay with the agreement that we had in February. The feedback from recent weeks was the foundation for us having a discussion to stay and continue together, but we couldn’t reach an agreement. I am not going to elaborate on details and motivations.” Tuchel joined Bayern in March last year after his departure from Chelsea but could not prevent the club’s long domestic reign being ended by a resurgent Bayer Leverkusen. Bayern were knocked out in the semi-finals of the Champions League by Real Madrid this month and need to avoid defeat at Hoffenheim to ensure they do not finish third. Harry Kane will miss the game owing to a back injury. The striker has not played since he was substituted during the second leg of Bayern’s Champions League semi-final defeat at Real Madrid on 8 May. England start their Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia on 16 June. “Harry is receiving treatment with his personal doctor,” Tuchel said. “He’s no longer here and won’t travel to Hoffenheim. It was really a borderline decision in Madrid. We tried it with treatment and it got worse with every move that he made, so there was no chance for him participating in practice.”
