A man has been charged with the murder of a 30-year-old woman in south-west Wales. Richard Jones, 49, appeared at Llanelli magistrates court on 12 July and spoke only to confirm his name and address. The body of Sophie Evans was found in a house on Bigyn Road in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, on 5 July. Jones, who was known to Evans, was arrested the same day. Evans’ family said she was a loving daughter, mother, sister and the “rock of our family”. They said they were “heartbroken” by her loss and she would “be greatly missed by us all”. In a tribute, they said: “Our beautiful and amazing sister and daughter Sophie was tragically taken from us, and our lives will never be the same. We are heartbroken by our loss. Our Sophie, only 30 years young, will be greatly missed by us all. “She was a loving mother to her two girls, who she adored with all her heart. An amazing sister, who was the rock of our family. So bright and funny, always making us laugh. “We would like to thank everyone for their support at this horrific time. It has meant a lot to the whole family. We would now like time to grieve, and ask to be given privacy in which to do so.” Dyfed-Powys police said its investigation into the death was continuing. Jones, from Y Rhodfa in Burry Port, Carmarthenshire, was remanded into custody and was due to appear at Swansea crown court on 15 July. A police spokesperson said: “Our thoughts are with Sophie’s family at this time, and they continue to receive support from specialist officers. The investigation team is grateful for the support of the community while inquiries have been carried out.”
