The winners of the Crystal Globe Competition and Proxima competition in the 58th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival KVIFF have been announced. According to the report of Mansour Jahani, an independent and international cinema journalist, the closing ceremony of the 58th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival was held in the cinema hall of the Thermal Hotel in the city of Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic, and the winners of the Crystal Globe Competition and Proxima Competition. were introduced and they were awarded the Crystal Globe award as well as the cash prize of this prestigious event and the first category of world cinema. The winners of the Crystal Globe Competition Jury members of the Crystal Globe Competition of the 58th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival were: Christine Vachon, producer from America, Geoffrey Rush, actor from Australia, Sjón, a screenwriter and writer from Iceland, Eliška Křenková, an actress from the Czech Republic, and Gábor Reisz, a director, screenwriter and composer from Hungary, announced their opinions as follows: Grand Prix The long documentary film A Sudden Glimpse to Deeper Things directed by Mark Cousins, a Scottish-Irish filmmaker, won the Crystal Globe Grand Prize for the best film and 25,000 USD. Special Jury Prize The movie Loveable, directed by Lilja Ingolfsdottir, produced in Norway, won the special prize of the jury and the amount of 15,000 USD. Best Director Award The best director award was given to Nelicia Low for directing the movie Pierce, a joint production of Singapore, Taiwan and Poland. Best Actress Award The Best Actress award was given to Helga Guren for her role in the Norwegian film Loveable. Best Actor Award The best actor award went to Ton Kas and Guido Pollemas for their roles in the movie Three Days of Fish produced by the Netherlands and Belgium. The jury Special Mentions award Jury members of the Crystal Globe Competition from the film Our Lovely Pig Slaughter directed by Adam Martinec, produced in the Czech Republic, and from the film Xoftex directed by Noaz Deshe, a joint production of Germany and France, received Special Mentions award. Právo Audience Award The Právo Audience Award also went to the movie Waves, directed by Jiří Mádl, a joint production of the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic. The winners of the Proxima competition This year was the third time that the Proxima competition section was held and the jury members of this section were: Bianca Balbuena, producer from the Philippines, Wouter Jansen, film distributor from the Netherlands, Adéla Komrzý, a director from the Czech Republic, Mohamed Kordofani, a director from Sudan, and Daniela Michel, an artistic director from Mexico, announced their votes as follows: Proxima Grand Prix The grand Prix of 15,000 USD was awarded to the movie Stranger directed by Zhengfan Yang and jointly produced by the United States, China, the Netherlands, Norway and France. Proxima Special Jury Prize The special prize of the jury and the amount of 10,000 USD also went to the documentary film Night Has Come directed by Paolo Tizón produced in Peru, Spain and Mexico and the film March to May directed by Martin Pavol Repka produced in the Czech Republic. Festival President’s Award to Actor Ivan Trojan to and Clive Owen At the closing ceremony of the 58th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, the Festival President’s Award was given to Czech actor Ivan Trojan and British actor Clive Owen.
