The Scotland international has made 58 appearances in his first two seasons at Brighton, having featured 22 times for Chelsea. He tweeted when he left the club: “Once a blue, always a blue.” Ruben Loftus-Cheek, £15m, Milan, June 2023 Loftus-Cheek enjoyed an impressive first season at Milan after his departure from Chelsea – where he spent 19 years, including loans at Crystal Palace and Fulham. The midfielder played 155 times for the club, in eight Premier League seasons, and scored 13 goals. In 40 Milan appearances he has scored 10 times. Mason Mount, £55m, Manchester United, July 2023 Mount started training with Chelsea aged six and made his first-team debut at 20, departing Stamford Bridge with 27 Premier League goals and a Champions League winners medal. In an Instagram post, he said: “I wanted to tell you directly how grateful I’ve been for all your support over the last 18 years.” The midfielder, now 25, will be looking to prove himself at Manchester United after a disappointing season in which he was out for more than four months because of injury. Callum Hudson-Odoi, £5m, Nottingham Forest, Sept 2023 Hudson-Odoi made his Chelsea debut in 2018 after joining the academy in 2007, aged seven, and went on to score 16 goals in 126 appearances before making the “emotional” decision to depart in 2023. The forward scored eight goals in his first season with Forest, three coming in their final three games of the season. Omari Hutchinson, £22m, Ipswich, June 2024 Hutchinson left Chelsea’s academy aged eight, playing at Charlton and Arsenal before returning in 2022. He featured regularly for Chelsea’s under-21s but his only two first-team appearances were as a substitute against Manchester City in January 2023 – one in the league, one in the FA Cup – then he joined Ipswich on loan at the start of the following season. After helping them win promotion, he signed on a permanent deal. Ian Maatsen, £37.5m, Aston Villa, June 2024 Maatsen joined the academy from PSV in 2018 and made his debut a year later, but three loans followed in League One and the Championship. Then, after 201 minutes of Premier League football at Chelsea, he went on loan to Borussia Dortmund last January, impressing as they reached the Champions League final. Lewis Hall, £28m, Newcastle, July 2024 Hall joined as an under-eight and in January 2022 became the youngest player to start an FA Cup tie for Chelsea. An accomplished midfielder and left-back, the first of his nine league appearances for the club came in the following campaign at Newcastle. He then went to St James’ Park on a season’s loan before making that move permanent this summer. Michael Golding, £4m, Leicester, July 2024 Golding spent six years in Chelsea’s academy, signing his first professional contract in July 2023. The teenage midfielder’s only game came in the FA Cup against Preston last January and he joined Leicester saying he was looking forward to being coached by Steve Cooper because of his new manager’s “track record of working with young players”. Conor Gallagher, £34m, Atlético Madrid, Aug 2024: After loans at Charlton, Swansea, West Brom and Crystal Palace, Gallagher gained Thomas Tuchel’s trust to earn his Chelsea debut in August 2022; a year later, he captained his boyhood club for the first time. Armando Broja The Albania striker broke through after loans at Vitesse and Southampton, signing a second senior contract in September 2022. The chairman, Todd Boehly, described him then as “a big part of our plans moving forward”. But an anterior cruciate ligament injury at the end of that year harmed his development. He went on loan to Fulham in February and is poised to join Ipswich on a season-long loan deal.
