French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday refused to name a government led by the left-wing New Popular Front (NFP) alliance, citing concerns over "institutional stability." Despite the NFP alliance securing the most votes in last month"s snap elections, Macron ruled out their leadership after four days of talks with party leaders. In a statement from his office, Macron called on political leaders to demonstrate "a spirit of responsibility" and to propose "ways of cooperating with the other political forces." The president is set to begin new consultations with political actors on Tuesday to explore further options for government formation. Macron initiated meetings with political parties last Friday, over six weeks after the second round of snap parliamentary elections on July 7. — Agencies
