The European Union is set to increase its military support for Ukraine by expanding its training mission to better equip Ukrainian forces in their conflict with Russia. Ahead of an informal meeting of EU defense ministers in Brussels on Friday, Josep Borrell, the EU"s foreign policy chief, announced plans to discuss the expansion of training for Ukrainian military personnel. “The goal was to train 60,000, we will increase it,” Borrell said. Borrell praised the EU"s military training mission as "the most successful training mission ever done by the EU" and mentioned potential plans to enhance coordination with the Ukrainian Armed Forces, including the possible establishment of a coordination center in Kyiv. “Sending instructors is not on our agenda. We are discussing the creation of a coordination center in Ukraine, but there is no talk of sending instructors,” Borrell clarified. This initiative aims to streamline EU support and aid, making the delivery of military supplies and ammunition to Ukraine more efficient. Ukraine"s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba recently raised concerns about delays in the delivery of promised military supplies, including ammunition. Borrell acknowledged these issues and affirmed that the EU would review its commitments to ensure Ukraine receives the necessary support to continue its defense efforts. “It’s clear that if the Ukrainians have our support, they can fight successfully,” Borrell emphasized, highlighting the crucial role of continued EU assistance in Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression. — Agencies
