A police officer has been seriously injured after being hit by a car he had approached while on duty. The officer, 33, was on patrol when he approached an Audi S3 in Low Waters Road in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, at about 1pm on Friday. Police Scotland said the officer “attempted to engage the occupants” of the car, but when he did so the vehicle made off. The Audi was then “involved in a collision” with the officer. He has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth university hospital for treatment and his injuries are not described as life-threatening. The other police officer at the scene was not injured. Police Scotland are making extensive inquiries to trace the Audi and its occupants, with police from the force’s Lanarkshire division working with specialist road policing officers. DI Scott Robertson said: “Our thoughts are very much with our colleague who has suffered serious injuries in this incident. His family are aware and we are providing them with support, as well as the other officers who have attended the scene. “We believe this was an isolated incident and there is no wider risk to the public. I would urge anyone who has not already spoken to police to come forward with any information that may assist us. “I would ask any drivers with dashcam to please check their footage and contact us if it holds information relevant to this collision.”
