Türkiye and Egypt jointly called for enhanced international recognition of Palestinian statehood and urgent humanitarian relief in Gaza, following their first High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting on Wednesday. The two countries reaffirmed their unwavering support for ending the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and backed the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders. They also emphasized the right of return for all Palestinian refugees. The joint declaration urged an immediate cease-fire, the release of hostages, and the unimpeded flow of humanitarian and medical aid to Gaza amid ongoing Israeli actions that violate International Law and International Humanitarian Law. Türkiye and Egypt condemned Israel’s targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure over the past 11 months. Expressing concern over illegal settlement activities and military attacks on Palestinian cities in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, both nations called on the international community to support the Palestinian National Authority and counter Israeli restrictions and illegal policies. The declaration highlighted the importance of supporting Iraq’s stability, preserving Libya’s political unity, and resolving conflicts in the Horn of Africa and Sudan peacefully. Türkiye and Egypt also reiterated their commitment to Syria’s sovereignty in line with UN resolutions and called for continued global support for humanitarian aid in Syria. The statement concluded by underscoring the need for international solidarity in the reconstruction of Gaza and the establishment of peace to prevent further regional escalation. — Agencies
