FLORIDA — Former US President Donald Trump is reported to be "safe" following an incident involving gunfire near his location in Florida, according to his presidential campaign spokesman Steven Cheung. Cheung confirmed that Trump is unharmed after two individuals reportedly exchanged gunfire outside the Trump International Golf Club. The Secret Service, alongside the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating the protective incident that occurred shortly before 2 p.m. local time (1800 GMT), as stated by Secret Service Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi on X. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have been briefed on the situation and have expressed relief at Trump’s safety. The White House confirmed that both leaders will continue to receive updates from their team. Vice President Harris emphasized that “violence has no place in America,” following her briefing on the incident. Donald Trump Jr. reported that an AK-47 automatic weapon was discovered in nearby bushes, according to local law enforcement. He also noted that a suspect has been apprehended. US Senator Lindsey Graham, who spoke with Trump, conveyed that the former president remains in good spirits and is more determined than ever. This incident follows a previous attack on Trump during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on July 13, where he was grazed by a bullet from a lone gunman. The gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was killed by a Secret Service agent at the scene. — Agencies
