At least 13 people were killed on Saturday morning in a series of Israeli airstrikes targeting Beirut"s southern suburbs, the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon, and towns in southern Lebanon. Lebanon"s official news agency reported that the Israeli army conducted 12 airstrikes on Beirut"s southern suburbs, hitting key areas. One of the victims was killed when an Israeli strike hit a house in the Saad Nayel neighborhood. In the Rashaya Valley town of Al-Rafid, the director of Al-Abrar School was killed when an airstrike targeted his home. The news agency also reported the death of a woman who succumbed to her injuries after being wounded in an airstrike on the town of Ain in northern Bekaa on Friday. The report noted that the woman was working with the Lebanese Red Cross, although no statement has been issued by the organization. Two young men lost their lives in southern Lebanon when an Israeli airstrike targeted a car in the Marj Harouf area of Nabatieh province. The same airstrike targeted a motorcycle with a guided missile, though the rider managed to escape, the agency added. Further south, four people were killed and several others injured in Israeli airstrikes on the eastern towns of Zawtar and Majdal Selm, also in Nabatieh province. Meanwhile, the Lebanese Civil Defense reported that four bodies and one injured person were recovered from the rubble of a building that collapsed after an Israeli airstrike hit a house in Joya town in Tyre district. The strike occurred in the early hours of Saturday, hitting a residential area and trapping civilians inside the building. Hezbollah and Israel have been locked in cross-border warfare since the start of Israel"s ongoing war on Gaza, which has resulted in over 41,800 deaths, most of them women and children, following an attack by the Palestinian group Hamas in early October. According to Lebanese authorities, 2,011 people have been killed, over 9,500 injured, and more than 1.2 million displaced since the conflict expanded into Lebanon. The international community has expressed concerns that Israeli attacks in Lebanon could further escalate the Gaza conflict. — Agencies
