Cristiano Ronaldo was among the scorers as Portugal beat Poland 3-1 in their Nations League clash in Warsaw. The 39-year-old put the visitors two up in the 37th minute, following up to convert after Rafael Leão burst forward and fired against the post, taking his record haul of international goals to 133. Ronaldo had earlier flicked an effort against the bar, before Bernardo Silva gave Portugal the lead with a 26th-minute finish. After Piotr Zielinski pulled a goal back for Poland in the 78th minute, a late Jan Bednarek own goal gave the Portuguese their third. Roberto Martínez’s men extend their 100% start in Group A1 to three wins, while Poland stay third with three points, three behind Croatia. Northern Ireland failed to find a way past Belarus, managing only a goalless draw in Nations League Group C3. The game was played in Zalaegerszeg in western Hungary due to Belarusian involvement in the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Liverpool’s Conor Bradley captained the side for the first time and thought he had given them the lead on 10 minutes only for an offside flag to intervene. Fedor Lapoukhov then performed wonders in the Belarus goal to twice deny Jamie Reid and also keep out efforts from Callum Marshall and Jamal Lewis. When Northern Ireland did find a way past him Eoin Toal’s glancing header struck the post. Reid went close to breaking the deadlock in the second half but Northern Ireland had to settle for a point and sit third in the table ahead of hosting Bulgaria at Windsor Park on Tuesday.
