Sunderland cemented their position at the top of the Championship with a dominant 2-0 win over Oxford. After back-to-back away victories over Hull and Luton, they made it three wins in six days thanks to Jobe Bellingham’s 16th-minute header and Wilson Isidor’s first-time volley. Burnley in second and Leeds in third dropped points, allowing Sheffield United to gain ground as they moved on from back-to-back defeats with a 2-0 victory over Stoke. Goals either side of the break from Kieffer Moore and Tyrese Campbell ended Stoke’s four-match unbeaten run. A minute’s silence was observed before kick-off in memory of the former Sheffield United player George Baldock, who died this month at the age of 31. Burnley’s frustrating 0-0 draw with QPR was enough for them to stay ahead of Leeds on goal difference, but a fourth draw in their past six games meant they lost further ground on the leaders. QPR remain second from bottom. Daniel Farke was left frustrated as Leeds failed to find a way past their opponents at Ashton Gate. His side dominated for long periods without hurting a tenacious Bristol City who were under the guidance of their head coach, Liam Manning, for the first time since the death of his baby son, Theo. Farke said: “We always play to win, rather than avoid losing, and we did more than enough. But we were wasteful in front of goal.” Both sets of fans gave Manning warm applause when he took the field briefly before the game to acknowledge the support he has received. Farke said: “I don’t really like to speak about what has happened to Liam at the same time as talking about a game because you cannot relate the two. We are talking about missed chances when there is a topic that is so much more important.” Manning handed the post-match press conference duty to his assistant Chris Hogg, who said: “It spoke volumes for Liam’s character that he was prepared to go on to the pitch today. He was determined to thank the supporters for all the love and support.” West Brom in fifth were also held 0-0 – the stalemate with Cardiff extending their run without a win to six matches. An impressive display from the Cardiff goalkeeper, Jak Alnwick, kept Albion out and there were boos at the final whistle. Mark Robins hailed his Coventry side’s comeback to beat 10-man Luton 3-2. The Hatters were 2-0 up at the break after Carlton Morris’s penalty and Elijah Adebayo’s second goal in consecutive games. Ellis Simms powered home a header and Victor Torp’s spectacular effort put Coventry back on level terms before Haji Wright bundled home a winner after Tom Holmes had been sent off. It was a second win in 10 league outings for Coventry, who lifted themselves out of the bottom three in the process. “Everybody played their part,” said Robins. “There were some really brilliant elements to the performance.” Plymouth staged a remarkable second-half fightback from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 with Preston. The visitors led through goals by Sam Greenwood, Mads Frokjaer-Jensen and Brad Potts and looked set to increase the pressure on Wayne Rooney. The hosts had other ideas, though, as Freddie Issaka and late goals from Andre Gray and Morgan Whittaker pulled them back level. Freddie Woodman made a brilliant diving save in the fifth minute of stoppage time to keep out Gray’s goal-bound shot as Argyle went in search of an unlikely winner. The Blackburn manager, John Eustace, criticised Darren England for his penalty decision in Watford’s 1-0 victory. Edo Kayembe sent Aynsley Pears the wrong way in the 71st minute after Ryan Hedges was penalised by England for handball. “I’ve seen it a number of times. It is really poor,” said Eustace. “Ryan had his hands a little bit high but the ball has come off the lad’s back and hit his hand. Our lad wasn’t even looking at the ball.” Casper De Norre struck a 89th-minute winner for Millwall as Swansea’s goal drought continued. De Norre scored by sweeping home Femi Azeez’s cross from eight yards. It was a fifth consecutive blank for Swansea: they have now played 525 minutes since Ben Cabango scored their last goal on 29 September. Dajaune Brown scored his first Derby goal as they came from behind to draw 1-1 with Hull at Pride Park. The 19-year-old substitute looped a header over Ivor Pandur after 66 minutes to draw Derby level after Xavier Simons had opened the scoring for the visitors in the 57th minute. Derby are unbeaten in their past four matches after a third successive 1-1 draw, while Hull are winless in their past four games.
