Napoli extended their lead at the top of Serie A to seven points as goals from Romelu Lukaku and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia sealed a 2-0 win at Milan. Lukaku and Kvaratskhelia both struck in the first half as Napoli extended their unbeaten league run to nine matches after their opening-day defeat at Verona. Milan, back in action after a 3-1 home win against Club Brugge last week, fell behind in the fifth minute when Lukaku raced on to Frank Anguissa’s through-ball to fire home. Napoli came under pressure as Yunus Musah and Samuel Chukwueze went close for Milan and Ruben Loftus-Cheek had a header well saved by the visiting goalkeeper, Alex Meret. Scott McTominay was denied a brilliant second for Napoli with a shot from outside the box, which was turned away by Milan’s goalkeeper, Mike Maignan. But the visitors doubled their lead before the break. Mathías Olivera picked out Kvaratskhelia on the edge of the area and the Georgia winger arrowed his finish into the top corner. Milan thought they had pulled one back soon after the restart but Álvaro Morata’s effort was ruled out for offside after a VAR intervention. Rafael Leão threatened for the home side in the closing stages when his superb long-range shot was acrobatically kept out by Meret but Milan slipped to their third league defeat of the season.
