The Museums Commission has launched the inaugural traveling exhibition of contemporary Saudi art, titled “Art of the Kingdom,” at the Imperial Palace in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This groundbreaking exhibition provides a platform for Saudi Arabia’s vibrant artistic movement, offering audiences from across the globe an opportunity to experience the dynamic contributions of Saudi artists. The exhibition showcases a diverse collection of artworks, including paintings, installations, videos, and other creative expressions, all of which reflect the rich history, culture, and memory of Saudi Arabia. These works also serve to highlight the country’s evolving cultural narrative, giving Brazilian and international visitors a chance to explore contemporary Saudi art and its significance in today’s global art scene. “Art is a language that unites peoples and cultures, and the Art of the Kingdom Exhibition is a prime example of this message,” said Mona Khazindar, Advisor at the Ministry of Culture. She emphasized that the exhibition is a testament to the excellence of Saudi contemporary artists and offers them a space to share their stories and visions with the world. This exhibition is part of the Ministry of Culture’s initiative to foster cultural dialogue and to showcase the creativity of Saudi artists globally. The show delves into several important themes, including the desert as a symbol of space, infinity, and depth, while also exploring the uniqueness of Saudi cultural traditions and the development of visual culture from past to present. The location of the exhibition, housed in the historic Imperial Palace in Rio de Janeiro, adds to its unique appeal, creating a dialogue between the ancient architecture and the modern themes reflected in the artworks. Notably, this exhibition was launched in conjunction with the G20 Summit in Brazil, with plans to travel to Riyadh in early 2025, where it will be hosted by the Saudi Museum of Contemporary Art in the Jax district. The exhibition will then move to the National Museum of China in Beijing later in the year. Through the “Art of the Kingdom” exhibition, the Museums Commission aims to empower Saudi artists and promote their work to a global audience, while also strengthening Saudi Arabia’s cultural presence on the international stage.
