Saudi Arabia and Egypt to enhance cooperation in culture, heritage and tourism

Saudi Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah met with Egypt"s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo on Tuesday. This was in line with the directives of the Saudi leadership. They held wide ranging talks on further enhancing bilateral cooperation in the fields of culture, tourism and heritage between the two countries. Prince Badr conveyed the greetings of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman to the Egyptian president. During the meeting, President El-Sisi stressed the pride of Egypt"s leadership and people over the historical relations with Saudi Arabia in all fields, especially in the cultural field, wishing the Kingdom all success in the various cultural events and sports tournaments it hosts. He congratulated the Kingdom on winning the bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, according to the spokesman of the Egyptian Presidency. El-Sisi praised the development witnessed by Saudi Arabia in the fields of culture, arts and tourism. He welcomed any cooperation requested by the Kingdom, given Egypt"s rich cultural heritage, extensive experience and great capabilities in various fields of arts and culture. The president also expressed Egypt"s readiness to expand the implementation of specific projects with the Kingdom in all aspects related to culture, arts, literature and heritage protection. On his part, Prince Badr emphasized the close rapprochement and bonds between the Egyptian and Saudi peoples, noting that Egyptian culture and arts occupy a distinguished place in the conscience of Saudi citizens. He highlighted the Kingdom"s keenness to intensify cooperation and implement cultural and artistic projects with Egypt. The minister noted the close coordination between the ministries and relevant authorities in the two countries, which contributes to strengthening the path of cultural and artistic cooperation between Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Those who attended the meeting included Minister of State and Member of the Cabinet Dr. Essam bin Saad bin Saeed, Deputy Minister of Culture Hamed bin Mohammed Fayez, Assistant Minister of Culture Rakhan Ibrahim Al-Touq, and Saudi Ambassador to Egypt Saleh bin Eid Al-Husseini. Meanwhile, Egyptian Minister of Culture Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hanno received his Saudi counterpart Prince Badr and his accompanying delegation. The ministers discussed several proposals that reflect the Saudi and Egyptian aspirations to develop cultural cooperation. These included establishing a cultural house in Cairo that would serve as a platform, which brings together intellectuals and artists to organize joint events, exchange training to qualify new generations of musicians and artists, support sustainable artistic projects, and develop cultural infrastructure through innovative initiatives that include digital libraries and mobile artistic projects. Prince Badr expressed his happiness at strengthening cultural relations between the two countries. "This cooperation reflects the depth of historical ties between the Kingdom and Egypt, and confirms the two countries" keenness to support regional and international cultural work," he said. The Saudi minister also met with the Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy at the headquarters of the Grand Egyptian Museum Authority. The ministers discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation between Egypt and Saudi Arabia in the field of antiquities and mechanisms for exchanging expertise in this field, and benefiting from the Egyptian experience in archaeological excavations in the Kingdom. They discussed the prospect of holding temporary exhibitions of Egyptian antiquities in Saudi Arabia within the framework of the new museum that will be established in the Kingdom to display various antiquities from all civilizations of the world. The ministers also discussed Egypt"s participation, represented by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, with antiquities in the Islamic Arts Biennale that will be held in Jeddah in January.
