Harrison Burrows scored both goals as Sheffield United moved back to the top of the Championship with a dominant 2-0 win against Norwich. Burrows opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, chesting the ball down before firing in a shot which hit both posts before crossing the line. Gustavo Hamer went close with a spectacular effort before Harrison scored his and United’s second from the spot on the hour after Ben Chrisene fouled Sam McCallum. Cameron Brannagan struck a stunning free-kick winner as Oxford United beat playoff chasing Blackburn 1-0 to make it six league games unbeaten under new manager Gary Rowett. Siriki Dembélé was brought down by Callum Brittain just outside the area and Brannagan drove the 67th-minut e free-kick high into the far corner with goalkeeper Aynsley Pears helpless. United have won all three home games since Rowett took over from Des Buckingham in December. Matt Ritchie scored twice in the second half as Portsmouth earned a vital 2-1 victory over Middlesbrough, who missed the chance to move into the top six. The match was played against a sombre backdrop after a spectator in the home end required medical attention seconds after kick-off, resulting in a 35-minute delay. Portsmouth later announced that the supporter had died, despite the efforts of the emergency services. Derby were made to pay for missed chances as Watford enjoyed a rare away success with a 2-0 win at Pride Park. The home side were left ruing their bad luck after hitting the woodwork three times on a day when little went right for them. Watford took an early lead through Imran Louza, who scored for the first time in almost a year, and sealed a third away win of the season when Edo Kayembe finished off a counterattack. Derby had opportunities but could not take them and boos rang out after a defeat which left them only one point above the relegation zone. Grady Diangana earned West Brom a deserved 1-1 draw against Stoke as Nathan Lowe threatened to ruin Tony Mowbray’s welcome back to The Hawthorns. Stoke led following Lowe’s eighth-minute opener but Diangana equalised in the 72nd minute in Chris Brunt’s final game as interim head coach. Mowbray, 61, has signed a two-and-a-half year contract to replace Carlos Corberán after his first spell in charge of nearly three years ended in 2009. Albion have now drawn 14 of their 27 Championship games this season. Brandon Thomas-Asante’s second-half goal was enough to give Coventry a 1-0 win over Bristol City at the CBS Arena. The Sky Blues ended a run of three games without victory and created some breathing space between themselves and the relegation places, denting the Robins’ play-off hopes in the process. Marti Cifuentes was delighted with his QPR side’s creativity as they claimed a third Championship win in a row with a 1-0 victory over bottom side Plymouth. Substitute Rayan Kolli scored the 65th-minute winner, following in on a save from Dan Grimshaw and applying a measured finish into the far corner from the edge of the box. “I am very happy, not only for the result but the fact it is not easy to come here and get three points as Plymouth’s home form has been stable,” said Cifuentes. “The way we performed, we created enough chances to not suffer.” Cardiff sealed their biggest South Wales derby league win for nearly 60 years with a 3-0 victory over Swansea. Callum Robinson’s double at the start of the second-half put Cardiff in command and Dimitrios Goutas thundered home a header off the underside of the crossbar to ram home their superiority. It ended a run of six games without home joy for Cardiff and secured the biggest league victory over their arch-rivals since winning 5-0 at Ninian Park in April 1965. The only negative for Cardiff was Omer Riza’s late red card after the Bluebirds manager tangled on the touchline with Swansea’s midfielder Gonçalo Franco. There were more ill-tempered scenes at the final whistle as both sets of players clashed. Hull head coach Ruben Selles showed again how he has turned his side into a tougher nut to crack on their travels as they claimed another vital away win, 1-0 at Millwall. Selles has had just over a month to get to know his squad, which had sunk into relegation trouble under predecessor Tim Walter, but this was their second in a row on the road, thanks to Jake Cooper’s own goal. Selles said: “We’re building some things like trying to control the game, trying to be intense, trying to be aggressive, trying to keep the line high, away from our goal. We’re going in the correct direction.” Matt Bloomfield started his reign as Luton’s new manager with an instantly forgettable 0-0 draw with Preston at Kenilworth Road. The contest did not live up to the hype of the manager’s free-flowing efforts at his previous club Wycombe, as visiting goalkeeper Freddie Woodman was hardly extended all game.
