I read the letter (2 February) from the retired urologist Reginald Hall, saying that men should think very carefully before asking their GP for a PSA test, with great interest. In 2012, I requested a PSA test from my then doctor. She declined, saying it wasn’t trustworthy and gave far too many false positive results to be of any use. I insisted, telling her that both my brothers had prostate cancer and that there was a good chance that I had it too. She relented. I had my PSA test and it was positive. I then had scans and eventually a biopsy, which showed I definitely had cancer. I was given options and decided on brachytherapy. It was successful, and 12 years later all is well down there. I am so grateful for our wonderful NHS. Noel Hannon London Re the letter on PSA testing, my doctor always referred to it as “Promotes Stress and Anxiety.” It probably does.
