30 June 2016 – As part of the United Nations interagency convoy on 29 June 2016, WHO delivered 43 000 lifesaving treatment courses to highly vulnerable people in need in Arbeen and Zamalka, East Ghouta. The treatment courses include lifesaving and chronic disease medicines, anesthetics, trauma kits and oral rehydration solution. This is the first time since 2012 that United Nations convoys have reached Arbeen and Zamalka, East Ghouta district. This WHO current response of over 178 000 treatments is based on several independent assessments that were conducted earlier this year.  WHO continues to call on all parties to the conflict to lift the siege on all besieged locations and to allow unhindered and sustained access to humanitarian aid workers to provide lifesaving aid to populations in need.
