23 June 2017 – The World Health Organization (WHO) expresses deep thanks and appreciation to His Royal Highness, Prince Mohammad bin Salman, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence for his generous initiative to fund cholera response activities in Yemen. King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre in Saudi Arabia, has announced a donation of US $66.7 million to UNICEF, WHO and their partners to contain the outbreak of cholera in Yemen, in response to their urgent call for much needed funds. The figure of US $66.7 million has been requested by UNICEF and WHO as the total funding needed to respond effectively to the cholera situation in Yemen, through a combination of water, sanitation and health care activities. This will help save lives of thousands of Yemeni people. "On behalf of the WHO Regional Office I extend deep thanks and appreciation to His Royal Highness, Prince Mohammad bin Salman, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence for his nobel initiative in the humanitarian field, to support efforts which aim to alleviate suffering, provide relief through working to contain cholera and prevent its complications in Yemen," Dr Mahmoud Fikri, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, said.
