While women adore shopping and have no trouble spending hours in comparing items and staring at stores vitrines, most men complain about being obliged to wait for their spouses hours-long in crowded markets. This might be a stereotypical image, but, for many, it is a reality. “Miserable Men” is an account on Instagram that has reflected this reality by sharing photos featuring bored men sitting and waiting their spouses in malls. Interestingly, the “miserable men” account’s posts sent by the participants, through an email provided on the official page, include photos for men from different countries who are waiting next to some shopping bags. Some of them are shown falling asleep while others were busy with their smartphones or gazing at the roof due to extreme boredom. To avoid these moments of misery, a mall in Shanghai has opened special rooms that offer videogames for husbands and boyfriends to spend their time playing instead of getting bored waiting till their wives and girlfriends finish shopping. The concept-founder “Row Smart Technology” said it has inaugurated the rooms known as “Men Pod” at the “Global Harbor” in June, and since then, more than 1000 men used it. According to Reuters, users of “men pod” can lay down in a seat in front of a big screen and play video-games, separated from the hubbub of shopping by transparent glass walls. With another 10-percent growth of retail spending in the second quarter of 2017, such rooms are expected to see a significant demand. The company said it plans to expand its services to include other malls in the future.
