Brussels- The summer vacation in the EU institutions, NATO in Brussels, and most of the government, legislative, and local Belgian institutions has kicked off. European media outlets in Brussels said the traffic congestion on highways of many European countries is disastrous, and that Saturday was a “black day” for people who embarked on their vacation, and those who were returning from theirs, which started at the beginning of July. Traffic was observed on many roads in Europe including the A7 motorway near the French city of Lyon. Vehicles that were crossing the Gotthard Tunnel in Switzerland stopped for hours as well. In Germany, cars were also paralyzed because of the traffic, and halted their journey on the A8 leading to Salzburg, and roads leading to Frankfurt and Cologne for one hour and a half. Italian highways saw less traffic jams and delays. Highways in Belgium seemed congested too, whether toward those leading to France, and then to Spain and Morocco, or the highways leading to Germany and Luxembourg, and the Netherlands, along with a remarkable traffic in internal roads leading to coastal cities.
