The Swedish furniture company IKEA has recalled over 30 million dressers after it caused the death of many children. The latest accident took place in May, in California, the United States, where an IKEA-made dresser killed two-years-old boy Jozef Dudek. His father couldn’t rescue him from under the dresser, which fell over him while he was napping. The details of the accident were disclosed few days ago. The Dudek family, from California, are now suing IKEA after the tragedy. Their lawyer Daniel Mann, who has also represented the families of other children crushed by IKEA drawers, said: "Jozef’s tragic death was completely avoidable. According to the Los Angeles Times, this was at least the seventh death of a child linked to IKEA dressers, which raises suspicions over IKEA’s step of recalling myriads of dressers in 2016. Ikea offered condolences to the family. The company said in a statement: "The initial investigation indicates that the chest involved in this incident had not been properly attached to the wall.” At least four children have died and 41 have been injured from IKEA’s dressers, according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission; other IKEA chests have caused three deaths and 19 reported injuries. Last year, the company paid a $50 million settlement for three families whose children had died from its furniture. According to The Mirror, IKEA also agreed to give $100,000 (£81,000) to a Chicago charity raising awareness of the dangers of furniture tipping over and a $50,000 (£40,500) donations to three childrens hospitals.
