Kaag Leaves Lebanon to Become Cabinet Minister in the Netherlands

UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Sigrid Kaag has concluded her assignment in Lebanon in order to join the Dutch cabinet, her office said on Thursday. Kaag will serve as Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, it said in a terse statement. Upon her departure, Kaag expressed her sincere gratitude to the Lebanese government and the people for three years of excellent cooperation. “It has been an honor for me to serve in this country. Lebanon is a model of coexistence and diversity for the region and I hope it will continue the path towards sustainable peace, stability, security and development,” she said. Deputy UN Special Coordinator, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Philippe Lazzarini, will serve as Officer-In-Charge of the Office of the UN Special Coordinator until further notice, the statement added.
