Tel Aviv revealed, Monday, a secret meeting held last week between IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot and US General Curtis Scaparrotti in Brussels – it meant to discuss Iran’s dominance in Syria and intention to impose its presence in the region via installing land and navy military bases. This meeting stood out because Eizenkot met earlier with Chief and members of Staff of the United States Army and discussed the matter with them. For this, the secret meeting was interpreted as an Israeli concern from the trio-agreement among Russia, UK and Jordan on cease-fire in south Syria. It was only in the beginning of last week when Israel was introduced to the agreement’s new structure. A high-rank political Israeli source stated that Israel views the agreement as a positive matter. He specified the paragraph stressing that all foreign forces, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), and their affiliate Shiite militias will be obliged to leave the Syrian territory. Yet, the source continued that Israel shows concern over the absence of a timeline in the agreement, and the fact that secret agreements among parties can only guarantee distancing Iranians and militias to relatively short distance from the Israeli border at Golan. The source added that the Israeli security body fears that the two great forces haven’t shown till now actual acts to drive out Iranians from Syria in general, and the south in particular. Israel saw that the trio-agreement didn’t respond to the Israeli demand to drive out Iranians and their militias from the border with Israel at Golan. Israel media published on Monday that IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot traveled secretly to Brussels and convened with US General Curtis Scaparrotti to discuss Iranian acts in the Middle East, generally, and Syria, specifically.
