The first aid plane in three weeks landed in the Yemeni capital Sana’a on Saturday, announced an official at the United Nations’ World Food Program (WFP). “First plane landed in Sana’a this morning with humanitarian aid workers,” WFP’s regional spokeswoman Abeer Etefa told Reuters in an email. The UN had recently announced that it received permission from the Saudi-led coalition to back legitimacy in Yemen to transfer aid by air to Yemen from the Jordanian capital Amman to Sana’a. Spokesman Jens Laerke of the UN humanitarian aid coordination agency OCHA said that the agency has not yet received a response from the coalition on allowing ships loaded with wheat and Cholera treatments to arrive at Yemen ports. Yemeni Minister of the Local Administration Abdul Raqib Fatah had called on UN agencies to deliver relief and humanitarian aid to all of the country’s provinces through ports and airports. This includes Sana’a airport and Hodeida Port, which will ensure their speedy delivery to those in need throughout Yemen. He demanded that they respect a decentralized approach so that the aid is delivered to those who are most in need of it. The minister stressed that the Higher Relief Committee is coordinating with all donors to allow aid to reach all Yemeni provinces, welcoming efforts to improve the humanitarian situation in the country.
