When it comes to Christmas traditions, every family has their preferences. Some only eat after the Queens Speech, others cant enjoy Christmas dinner without Brussels sprouts, and for some the main course should offer sausage pies. But how different are we to the royal family in terms of our festive traditions? A former royal chef has revealed some of the royal familys favorite Christmas rituals, so if you really wanted to, you could follow suit and enjoy Christmas dinner like the Queen this year. During an interview for The Independent, Chef Darren McGrady explains that the royals get together each holiday season at Sandringham House, their private residence in Norfolk, where they spend two days celebrating. But, when it comes to the set-up, Darren reveals that it might not be as luxurious as people might expect. Darren said: "The Queen is not lavish, so the décor is minimal. The royal family has a large Christmas tree and a large silver artificial tree in the dining room, which is about 30-years-old." So what are their main eating traditions? On Christmas morning, the royal family visit the church and then return home to eat. They "stick with the same meal year after year," not deviating from their firm favorite. Darren reveals that they prefer to feast at lunchtime on Christmas Day, rather than in the evening, and eat "salad with shrimp or lobster, a roasted turkey, and all of your traditional side dishes like parsnips, carrots, Brussels sprouts, and Christmas pudding with brandy butter for dessert." This is followed by sitting down to watch Her Majestys Christmas Speech, of course.
