Saudi Arabia Renews Call on US to Rescind Declaring Jerusalem Capital of Israel

Saudi Arabia’s Cabinet on Tuesday commended the international unanimity rejecting the announcement of US President Donald Trump recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and relocating the Embassy of the United States to it. The cabinet renewed the Kingdom’s denunciation and great regret of the step taken by the US administration as it represents a great bias against historic and firm rights of the Palestinian people in Jerusalem, guaranteed by relevant international resolutions. The Kingdom called on the US administration to rescind this decision and bias the international will to enable the Palestinian people to regain their legitimate rights. This came during the Saudi cabinet session that was held on Tuesday at al-Yamamah Palace and chaired by Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. At the outset of the session, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques briefed the Cabinet on the telephone call received from the US President, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, his meeting with British Chancellor of Exchequer Philip Hammond and Russian Special Presidential Envoy for the Middle East and African countries and Undersecretary of Russian Foreign Ministry Mikhail Bogdanov. Following the session, Minister of Culture and Information Dr. Awwad bin Saleh al-Awwad said in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency that the Cabinet has reviewed a number of issues and latest developments at regional, Arab and international arenas. It welcomed Kuwait’s declaration, which was issued at the end of the Summit of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for Arab States in its 38th session, and its affirmation that the vision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, which was approved by the Council in December 2015, laid the required foundations for completing the integration system among the GCC States in all fields, Awad said. He added that the cabinet also emphasized on the importance of the pivotal role of the Council in security and stability in the region and combating terrorist organizations and the extremist ideology. The Cabinet also congratulated the Iraqi government and people on the occasion of the liberation of their countrys territories of the last stronghold of ISIS terrorist group, praying to Allah Almighty to bestow security, stability and prosperity upon Iraq and its people. It expressed the Kingdoms condemnation of the bombing taht targeted a subway station in New York city, renewing the Kingdoms stance rejecting terrorism and extremism in all their forms and manifestations. The Minister said that the cabinet welcomed the resolution taken by the Human Rights Council at its emergency session in Geneva on the systematic and grave violations against human rights in Myanmar, particularly the Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine State.
