UN special envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed held talks with senior members of the General People’s Congress, offering his condolences over the death of its chief former President Ali Abdullah Saleh. He urged in a number of tweets an end to the violence in Sanaa, saying that the developments there are “unacceptable and a violation of international law.” He also called for an “immediate” end to the violence that the Congress leaders are being subject to, such as arbitrary detention and intimidation. He said that the talks also focused on the best ways to end the conflict in Yemen. In addition, he said that he held a number of “fruitful and constructive” talks with United Arab Emirates Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Anwar Gargash and senior Emirati officials on Yemen. Discussions addressed the humanitarian situation in the war-torn country and the best way to reach a political solution.
