Lebanese Director and Playwright Ziyad Itani will appear before the First Military Investigative Judge Riyad Abu Gheida on Monday, to be questioned over charges of "conspiring with the Israeli enemy, communicating information about politicians and media professionals, and possessing drugs." This is the first time Itani will be interrogated before the judiciary, despite the fact that more than three weeks have passed since his arrest. According to available information, a girl identified the Lebanese actor via Facebook and established relations with him, developing into intimate meetings between the two in Turkey. The girl later turned out to be an officer in the Israeli Mossad and was able to take pictures of Itani, blackmailing him and recruiting him to gather information about Lebanese politicians and media professionals. However, sources confirmed that Itanis role "did not rise to the level of security work, but remained in the framework of collecting information." Itanis lawyer, Saliba Al-Hajj, filed formal motions requesting the revocation of the preliminary investigations conducted with Itani because of the media leaks and the publication of the contents of the investigation records in a number of Lebanese newspapers, in contravention of the Lebanese Code of Criminal Procedure. However, the Court of Cassation Court decided to proceed with the investigations.
