An Egyptian prosecutor has ordered the detention of 75 people following an investigation into suspected human trafficking. A 14-month probe by the anti-corruption Administrative Control Authority found that the group includes government officials, Egyptian citizens, and foreigners. The probe revealed the defendants were involved in acts of bribery, profiteering, forging official documents, facilitating illegal migration and human trafficking, as well as misappropriating private and public funds, an ACA statement said. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi ordered ACA to continue combating corruption, taking all appropriate measures that would achieve development and contributing to a climate of integrity and transparency. Sources affirmed that the ACA focuses on combating corruption in all its forms in state institutions. The statement, a copy of which was obtained by Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, didnt name officials or specify the nationalities of the foreigners involved. It said the arrests were carried out during raids across several provinces, including Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, Kafr el-Sheikh, Gharbiya and Daqahliyah. The statement added that the inspection led to the seizure of foreign currencies, postal stamps, Egypt’s government stamp and that of other states, dozens of forged stamps of the Republic and ministries of foreign affairs, higher-education and health, forged birth certificates and travel documents, wireless devices, in addition to the equipment used in forgery. They include a laptop, printers, ink, papers used in preparing government receipts and certificates.
