Saudi Arabia on Friday intercepted a ballistic missile over the kingdoms south near the border with Yemen, the Spokesman of the Arab Coalition Forces for Supporting the Legitimacy in Yemen, Col. Turki Al-Malki, said. Saudi air defenses intercepted the ballistic missile over Najran. Maliki said that “this hostile action by the Iranian-backed Houthi militias proves the continued involvement of the Iranian regime in supporting the Houthis ... in clear and explicit violation of UN resolutions 2216 and 2231.” The attacks aims at “threatening the security of Saudi Arabia and that of the region and the world,” he said. “Firing ballistic missiles at densely populated cities and villages is in contravention of international humanitarian law,” Maliki added. The spokesman renewed his call on “the international community to take more serious and effective steps to stop the blatant Iranian violations through the continued smuggling and transfer of ballistic missiles and weapons to terrorist groups.” He also called for holding Iran accountable over its blatant defiance of international norms and values, and threats to regional and international security.
