A Saudi criminal court sentenced to eight years in jail a Saudi man, who was in charge of ISIS’ judicial body in the Syrian Hama and Homs governorates. He also assumed the position of mufti for the terrorist organization in Idlib, although he held the intermediate certificate and met with a number of the organization’s leaders, including Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. The suspect was trained on the manufacture of improvised explosive devices and suicide car bombs in the camps of the Al-Nusra Front and ISIS groups and returned to Saudi Arabia, where he started using narcotic cannabis. The 31-year-old confessed that he had left Saudi Arabia for Yemen via Ethiopia and was offered to join the Iranian-backed Houthi group, but he left for Turkey via Egypt and entered Syria through a Kuwaiti intermediary. He also recounted that he stayed in the house of the Kuwaiti man with people of various nationalities, including Hamed al-Ali, who was listed by the Anti-Terrorism Quartet as a Qatari-backed terrorist. The story of the ISIS judge and mufti began inside the Syrian territories, where he moved between training camps and assumed legal work under the cover of Islam. He met with the leaders of ISIS in Syria as he arrived in a training camp in Idlib seven years ago and joined Al-Nusra Front. He encountered a person named Hajj Ibrahim, who turned out to be Abu Mohammad al-Adnani (Taha Subhi Falah), a former spokesman for ISIS, who was a leader of Al-Nusra Front, which was operating at the time under ISIS. Abu Mohammad al-Adnani (killed in aerial bombardment in 2016) asked the Saudi suspect to go to Hama to work there as a judge for about two months. Then he moved to Homs. He justified the reason for his transition from Homs to the chaos and the failure of the leaders to pay for food and assistance to the foreign fighters, while they spent generously on themselves and the fighters of Syrian nationality. The man returned to Mecca after his health worsened. He lived in a residential building near a hospital there. He handed himself over to the security authorities in 2016.
