Kuwait announced on Monday that it will host in February an international conference on the reconstruction of Iraq in cooperation with the International Bank and private sector. The meeting will be held between February 12 and 14, announced deputy Kuwait Foreign Minister Khaled al-Jarallah. He stated that the conference is being held at a “critical time.” “Kuwait’s support for Iraq has not and will not stop because the security and stability of Iraq is of the security and stability of Kuwait and the region,” he continued, while congratulating Baghdad on defeating terrorist groups, starting with ISIS. February’s conference will address development aspects on Iraq. It will witness the participation of the private sector in reconstructing the country. The International Bank will take part in the meeting as a main contributor to provide the needed guarantees for the private sector. Jarallah had held talks on Monday with an Iraqi delegation on the development and investment needs for Iraq’s reconstruction. Secretary General of the Iraqi government Dr. Mahedi al-Allaq said that the donor conference was proposed by Kuwait Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah. The meeting will discuss the issue of ensuring humanitarian operations in liberated regions, he added. He said that Iraq needs no less than 100 billion dollars for reconstruction.
