Lebanon’s Prime Minister Saad Hariri stressed on Thursday that the parliamentary elections scheduled for May 6 would be held on time, adding that there was “no room to discuss any postponement under any circumstances.” “It took a long time to complete the electoral law, and today, whatever the situation, the elections will take place on the specified date, although there are some issues associated with the biometric voting card and the mega center that are still under discussion and study,” the prime minister said at the beginning of a cabinet meeting. The session saw discussions about three major files, including the parliamentary polls, temporary and final solutions to the waste disposal problem and the electricity file. Minister Jean Oghassabian, who read the ministerial decisions, said that Hariri has underlined the need that solutions to the waste and electricity files be clear and transparent. Hariri also informed the cabinet that Lebanon would be hosting the Arab Summit in 2019. After the meeting began, Minister of Agriculture Ghazi Zoaiter left the session, explaining that his withdrawal was not political, but due to issues related to the agriculture sector. “Since May, I have submitted proposals to be included on the cabinet’s agenda, but they have not been to date without any justification.” “If those items are not added on the agenda of the next meeting, I will take the same position,” he added. “Mr. Hariri is more concerned about farmers than I am.
