Former Iranian President Mohammed Khatami called on Tuesday Iranian authorities to listen to the people, who have been protesting against the government. In a statement released on his website, he said that the concerned authorities and state agencies must seek to limit the problems of the people “instead of humiliating them and deepening their wounds.” Protesters took to the streets in dozens of Iranian cities to condemn the social and economic situation in the country, chanting slogans that called for the change of the regime. “All institutions must acknowledge that they are partially responsible for the poor economic situation and the complaints that the protesters chanted about,” Khatami said. “I look forward to an atmosphere that can allow the people to express their demands safely without fearing that they may be terrorized,” he added.
