Arab Leagues Secretary General Ahmad Abul-Gheit discussed on Tuesday the Palestinian cause with Speaker of Kuwaits National Assembly Marzouq Ali al-Ghanim and his accompanying parliamentary delegation. The meeting also dealt with the Arab efforts needed to support the rights of Palestinian people, namely establishing an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. During the meeting on the sidelines of al-Azhar Conference in Support of al-Quds (Jerusalem), the two officials exchanged views over the current state of affairs in parliaments across the region. Abul Gheit spoke highly of "parliamentary activity" in Kuwait and praised Ghanim for his hands-on approach and his commitment to have the Arab regions best interests at heart. For his part, Ghanim expressed his concern over the "critical juncture" that the region is going through, adding that they discussed means of boosting the work of the Arab League, Arab parliaments, and the Arab Inter-parliamentary Union (AIPU) "It was fruitful meeting, during which we tackled means of cooperation between the Arab League, and the regional governments, parliaments and institutions,” added Ghanim. Arab League spokesman Mahmoud Afifi indicated that Speaker al-Ghanim reiterated his support of the efforts of Arab League to promote joint Arab action, which requires all Arab parties to support the League in addressing the priorities of Arab affairs, especially the Palestinian cause.
