A teenager accused of planting an improvised bomb on a commuter train last September pleaded not guilty on Friday to charges of attempted murder and causing an explosion in southwest London’s Parsons Green station. Ahmed Hassan, 18, appeared at Londons Old Bailey by video link from Belmarsh prison. He is charged with trying to murder passengers on a District Line underground train heading to central London from the southwestern suburb of Wimbledon. He is also accused of making a bomb using the highly volatile triacetone triperoxide (TATP) - known as "the mother of Satan" - or another explosive substance. Flames engulfed the carriage, injuring 30 people but none seriously in what authorities said was Britains fifth major attack of 2017. The two week trial is due to start on March 5. Meanwhile, police investigating a package which briefly sparked a security alert near Londons Kings Cross railway station on Friday said the item was non-suspicious and that cordons were being lifted. "Police were dealing with a suspicious package in Pentonville Road/Caledonian Road, #KingsCross. The package has been deemed non-suspicious & cordons now being removed," local police said on Twitter. A police spokesman had earlier said that roads had been shut near Kings Cross, but the station itself was not closed during the incident.
