A 15-year-old student opened fire at a school in the US state of Kentucky on Tuesday, leaving two others dead and at least 17 injured. The shooting took place at Marshall County High School and the suspect has since been arrested. Governor Matt Bevin said 14 of the wounded were suffering gunshot wounds. Speaking at a news conference, he said one girl died at the scene. A boy died at a hospital. Kentucky State Police Commissioner Richard Sanders said the shooter was armed with a handgun. The boy will be charged with murder and attempted murder. The bloodshed was the latest outbreak of gun violence that has become a regular occurrence at schools and college campuses across the United States over the past several years. Police said the violence erupted when the suspect walked into the school armed with a handgun and started shooting. The governor said the youth was apprehended at the scene “in a nonviolent way.” No further details of the circumstances of the shooting were immediately divulged by authorities. None of the students involved were being publicly identified, Bevin said.
