Lebanon’s Former Justice Minister Asharq Rifi reiterated on Thursday his attack against the “Future Movement,” accusing the party of “turning on the March 14 Revolution and of betraying the blood of martyrs.” In an interview with Asharq Al-Awsat, the former ISF director denied having said that Prime Minister Saad Hariri has ended politically. “My comments were paraphrased. When the Future Movement first nominated Suleiman Franjieh as a presidential candidate, and then backed Michel Aoun, I said that this choice would lead to the ends. Now, we can see to which conclusions this choice have taken us,” Rifi said. A political conflict between the Hariri led Future Movement and Rifi has reached a point of no return, particularly after security forces arrested early this month three supporters from Rifi’s camp. The former justice minister said that Hariri had a choice to fix his mistakes when he presented his resignation from Saudi Arabia. “When he delivered his resignation speech from Riyadh, I said this is the Saad Hariri that I know, and he will surely find me supportive of him. However, he missed this golden chance by withdrawing his resignation. Unfortunately, Saad Hariri proved he is the man of the lost chances,” he said. According to Rifi, the current formula reached between the Future Movement and the Free Patriotic Movement led to a pro-Hezbollah president and a government with 17 ministers from the team of the Iranian party. “We will now hold elections with a new electoral law that will provide Hezbollah with the majority of Parliament seats and will offer the party 7 to 9 Sunni deputies,” he said. Rifi also lashed out at the Future Movement’s alliance with Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil, adding that the case filed by the foreign minister against him will be “an opportunity to open the corruption file and will make Bassil sorry for his decision.” The former director of the ISF reiterated that he owns information proving that “Hezbollah” was responsible for the assassination of head of Information Branch of the Internal Security Forces (ISF) Brigadier general Wissam Hassan.
