At least two people were killed on Sunday when a passenger train collided with a freight train in the US state of South Carolina. At least 50 others were wounded when the Amtrak passenger train collided with a CSX freight train, the Lexington County Sheriffs Department said on Twitter. Lexington County spokesman Harrison Cahill could not say if the two people killed were on the passenger train or the freight train. He said the injuries ranged from scratches to broken bones. The train with 139 passengers and eight crew members aboard was traveling between New York and Miami when it collided with the freight train and derailed, Amtrak said in a statement. "Amtrak Train 91, operating between New York and Miami, came in contact with a CSX freight train at around 2:35 a.m. in Cayce, South Carolina," Amtrak said in a statement on its website. "The lead engine was derailed, as well as some passenger cars." Amtrak and the Lexington County Sheriffs Department were not available for immediate comment. The sheriffs department said all passengers were off the train.
