A case dating back to March 2015, when an ISIS terrorist attacked a security patrol in the suburb of Wadi Laban in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, was reopened on Monday. Two security officers were injured in the assault and the perpetrator was arrested. The case was reopened after 10 suspects, including two Yemeni nationals and eight Saudis, were put on trial. Investigations revealed that the main suspect and brought down with him nine others after they to cover up his crime for various motives. The defendant is charged with attacking security forces, pledging allegiance to the ISIS leader and adopting extremist ideology through continuously watching the recordings and videos of the organization and its leaders on YouTube. He was persuaded by one of the leaders to give up his national identity by throwing away his identity card while trying to infiltrate and escape to Yemen through the Saudi-Yemeni border. The suspect also planned to attack the Arqa police station in Riyadh and tried to conceal his crime with the help of a group that included his brother and others who were trying to facilitate his escape to Yemen. Another charge revealed that the main suspect was plotting to target a security sector officer with the help of the target’s own son, who is one of the other defendants. The son attempted to cover up the main suspect’s act and helped him travel to Jazan in preparation for his departure to Yemen illegally. The list of accusations against the ISIS defendants also included drug trafficking and addiction.
