Over the last week the United States has delivered ammunition, grenade launchers, and Bradley Fighting Vehicles valued at more than $11.7 million to the Lebanese army, the US Embassy said in a statement on Tuesday. The army received on Feb.1 two hundred MK-19 Automatic Grenade Launchers. Two days later, Washington delivered eight new Bradley Fighting Vehicles to the Lebanese army, part of a package valued at more than $100 million, the embassy said. The US delivered on Tuesday 827 Copperhead artillery rounds to the army. Valued at more than $1.4 million, this ammunition replenishes army stockpiles used to defeat ISIS terrorist group in Operation Fajr al Jouroud, the embassy said. The US “remains committed to a secure, stable, democratic, and prosperous Lebanon,” it said. With US-provided weapons, equipment, and training, the Lebanese army continues to develop combat capabilities that will ensure that it remains a “nationally unifying force, a bulwark against extremism and terrorism, and the only legitimate defender of Lebanon,” it added.
