Saudi Arabia Pledges $1.5 Billion to Help Rebuild Iraq

Riyadh pledged on Wednesday $1.5 billion to help rebuild Iraq after the war against ISIS terrorist group. Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir made the pledge at a donors conference at Bayan Palace in Kuwait City. Earlier in the day, Kuwaits Emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah said his country will give $1 billion in loans and $1 billion in direct investments to help rebuild Iraq. The United Arab Emirates also pledged $500 million. Several other countries and organizations have made pledges as well. Overall, Iraq is seeking $88.2 billion in aid from donors to help rebuild the country after a three-year war against ISIS which devastated homes, schools, hospitals and economic infrastructure, displacing millions of people.
