The Egyptian army announced on Friday that it had arrested a “very dangerous terrorist” cell in the central Sinai region. Three members of the cell were killed in the ongoing comprehensive “Sinai 2018” operation, added the military. The campaign was launched a week ago in a bid to eliminate terrorists holed up in the peninsula. One of them was among the most wanted fugitives and is accused of targeting the armed forces. A statement posted on the army’s official Facebook page said that the military had arrested 224 criminal suspects in Sinai. The armed forces seized and destroyed ten SUVs used by the terrorists. It destroyed 22 motorcycles that do not have a license plate. A total of 150 weapons caches, which included explosives and communication devices, were discovered. In addition, five cannabis farms were discovered and destroyed. Over 2.5 tons of narcotics were seized and 28 explosives that were prepared to target the armed forces were dismantled. The Sinai operation is being coordinated with naval units to prevent the escape of the terrorists from the areas that are targeted in the security raids, continued the military statement.
