Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Walid Yacoub stressed on Tuesday the kingdom’s support to the legitimate powers in the country. These powers are the product of the constitution and the Taef Accord, he explained after meeting with Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi as part of a protocol visit after he assumed his official diplomatic duties. He said that Maronite Patriarchate is credited with forming the Greater Lebanon, which is based on coexistence between Muslims and Christians. It also played a major role in adopting the Taef Accord, which helped restore peace and stability in Lebanon. The accord, signed in the Saudi city of Taef, helped end Lebanon’s 1975-90 civil war. The ambassador said that his visit on Tuesday was a protocol one, hoping that he will have the pleasure of holding more talks with al-Rahi in the future in wake of his historic Riyadh trip and as part of efforts to cement Lebanon’s sovereignty and independence. Al-Rahi had paid a visit to Saudi Arabia in November 2017.
