Starting Monday, Saudi Arabia will apply the electronically monitoring procedures to spot people who are not wearing seat belts or are using mobile phones while driving in the country. The General Directorate of Traffic explained that this comes as part of the expansion in the control of traffic violations through modern technology. The first phase of these procedures will start in the cities of Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, then the technical monitoring equipment will be deployed in the other Saudi cities. The Traffic Directorate called on drivers to abide by the traffic regulations and to follow the instructions of public safety and safe road driving. It also highlighted that cellphone usage while driving has been among the top causes of accidents that have claimed innocent lives, and that the seat belt has played a significant role in reducing serious injuries caused by car crashes.
