Director General of Traffic Department Brig. Gen. Mohsen Al-Zahrani warned of using mobile phones while driving. Speaking at the Traffic Safety 2022 event in Tabuk on Monday, he said during the past few months we lost entire families in car accidents in several regions of the Kingdom due to the use of mobile phones while driving. Al-Zahrani said that one of the terrible accidents resulted in the death of 7 people, and another, which occurred in Mahdia Governorate, led to the death of an entire family and the closure of their home. He confirmed the decrease in deaths resulting from car accidents in the Kingdom, from 27 deaths per 100,000 in 2016; to 13.17 deaths per 100,000 in 2021. “This is the result of the efforts made by the traffic safety committees in the regions of the Kingdom.” He pointed out that the Ministry of the Interior seeks to reduce the percentage to 8 deaths per 100,000 by 2030, calling on all the competent authorities to unite to achieve this goal.
