In anticipation of the presidential elections in 2019, reaching an accord is back to discussion following the call of the Movement of Society for Peace that the government and opposition reach a “national accord”. This demand was strongly rejected by the National Liberation Front that backs a fifth term for President Bouteflika. Movement of Society for Peace President Abderrazak Makri said, Friday, during a meeting for the party cadres that the sole way that would enable the country to exit its crisis is via reaching an accord. Makri didn’t explain this concept in details, but his talk about a joint political convention shows that he is suggesting that the authority and the opposition hold tension-free elections. He added that his party is holding an exceptional conference on May 10 to choose a new president, leaving an impression that he wishes to remain in presidency. Commenting on the party’s state, Makri stressed that all efforts are being exerted to develop the movement in terms of ideas that would serve this countrys interest and the Arab and Muslims causes, on top of them the Palestinian cause. “We are aware that if we succeeded as a movement in Algeria then we will come closer to the greatest purpose within the Arab and Islamic culture,” he added. Makri continued: “We have three possible scenarios: reaching an accord, a political and economic stalemate or chaos, which is an unfavorable scenario.” Makri who rejected discussing the elections month ago, said to the press, “What presidential elections are you talking about when our prospects are still the same? What fifth term does the president want? What Algeria will he rule? In which money is he going to bribe the political clients?” After wasting chances, time and resources, Algeria has no other option than an accord among active players in the political, economic and social arenas, he stressed.
